The Shelby FFA Chapter is sponsoring a barbeque contest at the Marias Fair this year!
Start time is listed as 7 am, but for good BBQ, some contestants may be turning on their cookers as early as 3 or 4 am!
There will be a big tent set up just east of the old schoolhouse, near the entrance of the fairgrounds. Anyone can enter in this contest. Everyone is welcome. There are 3 categories and trophies for the winners of each: Beef Brisket, Pulled Pork and Baby Back Ribs. Contestants can compete in any one of the categories, or all three!
Judging will take place around 5-6 pm. The public is welcome to taste-test as well! The plan is to have wristbands available for $10, and you can go sample all of the delicious barbeque.
We're excited to announce the Local Celebrity Judges for the event too! The Marias Fair Barbacoa judges will be local radio personality, Mark Daniels, Principal Kyle Fisher and his daughter, Zoey, and local vet-tech and cowgirl, Janine VanTine. The judges will decide the winners before the rodeo.
It's not too late to enter in this event! The tent will arrive Thursday afternoon and everyone is welcome to start setting up then. Questions – email email@example.com or call 814-931-7758.

These photos are from The Great Northern Fair in Havre MT just this past week! THIS carnival is on it's way to Shelby as we speak!!

One fair-goer from Havre gave this report: "The carnival was good. Lots of variety for real little kids, bigger kids, and a few rides that adults would enjoy!"

Saturday, July 24, Noon - 1 pm @ Horse Arena
The Marias Fair 4-H Horse Committee is planning to offer Pony Rides!
Do you have a little one who, while at the fair, walks by the horse barn in hopes he/she can pet one of the horses? Well, if this just described you and your littles, there's a few people that have noticed you in years past.
The 4-H Horse Committee has a special event planned once again this year. They will be offering pony rides to any youngster who would like to ride.
Show up to the horse arena at 12:00 noon on Saturday, July 24. We encourage kids to wear closed-toe shoes. Other than that, be ready to ride!
Friday & Saturday Evenings, during the PRCA Rodeo
Calling all parents who have young kids with LOTS of energy to burn and need something fun to do at the RODEO!!
We're going to have a BOOT RACE!! BOTH Nights!!
The announcer will call kids from the grandstands during intermission. Everybody throws their boots in a pile on one end of the arena, then lines up at the other end. When the whistle sounds, it's time to run and find your boots in the pile, put them on, then race back to the finish line! Kids ages 4 to 10 can participate. We'll have a couple different races, to break up the age groups. Fun fun!
